{"id":1204,"date":"2013-11-07T13:57:08","date_gmt":"2013-11-07T17:57:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.prisonpolicy.org\/blog\/?p=1204"},"modified":"2014-09-25T18:15:19","modified_gmt":"2014-09-25T22:15:19","slug":"ma-dogs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.prisonpolicy.org\/blog\/2013\/11\/07\/ma-dogs\/","title":{"rendered":"Massachusetts Department of Corrections moves forward with dog sniff plan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>If you visit a Massachusetts prison this week, you may be subjected to a dog sniff search.<\/p>\n<p>As soon as we learned of the Massachusetts Department of Corrections&#8217;s plan to use dogs to screen people entering prisons \u2014 including friends and families visiting their loved ones \u2014 starting this week, we wrote them <a href=\"\/scans\/dog-ltr-10-22-13.pdf\">another letter<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>We reminded the Commissioner of the Department of Corrections that the research clearly shows that helping incarcerated people maintain close relationships with their families and communities increases the chances that they will succeed after they are released.
