{"id":2853,"date":"2014-11-21T11:11:55","date_gmt":"2014-11-21T15:11:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.prisonpolicy.org\/blog\/?p=2853"},"modified":"2024-08-14T08:42:39","modified_gmt":"2024-08-14T12:42:39","slug":"fcc-comment-period","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.prisonpolicy.org\/blog\/2014\/11\/21\/fcc-comment-period\/","title":{"rendered":"New opportunity to weigh in on FCC prison phone regulation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>If you&#8217;ve been looking for an opportunity to weigh in on federal regulation of the prison and jail telephone industry, the time has come.<\/p>\n<p>Today the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) published a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.federalregister.gov\/articles\/2014\/11\/21\/2014-26922\/rates-for-interstate-inmate-calling-services-second-further-notice-of-proposed-rulemaking\">Public Notice in the Federal Register<\/a> announcing the Commission&#8217;s &#8220;Second Further Notice of Proposed Rulemaking&#8221; to make calls home from prisons and jails more fairly priced. For a refresher on what the FCC is proposing to do, check out our <a href=\"\/blog\/2014\/10\/27\/fcc-play-by-play\/\">play-by-play blog post<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>This Federal Register publication kicks off a new FCC public comment period that will run until January 5, 2015*, followed by a reply comment period that will end on January 20, 2015*. You can make your voice heard by <a href=\"http:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20151117093632\/http:\/\/apps.fcc.gov\/ecfs\/proceeding\/view?name=12-375\">submitting a comment<\/a> to the FCC.
