{"id":3925,"date":"2015-10-22T12:13:50","date_gmt":"2015-10-22T16:13:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.prisonpolicy.org\/blog\/?p=3925"},"modified":"2015-10-22T12:42:41","modified_gmt":"2015-10-22T16:42:41","slug":"fcc-order","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.prisonpolicy.org\/blog\/2015\/10\/22\/fcc-order\/","title":{"rendered":"FCC passes order to regulate prison and jail telephone industry"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Federal Communications Commission today approved a new order regulating the prison and jail telephone industry and reducing the cost of calling home from prisons and jails.<\/p>\n<p>You can read <a href=\"https:\/\/apps.fcc.gov\/edocs_public\/attachmatch\/DOC-335984A1.pdf\">the FCC&#8217;s press release and summary of the decision<\/a> and see our <a href=\"\/blog\/2015\/10\/01\/clyburn-proposal\/\">October 1 analysis<\/a> of the FCC&#8217;s &#8220;fact sheet&#8221; that compares the proposed order to the exploitative status quo.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nWe&#8217;ll have a detailed analysis after the full text of the FCC&#8217;s order is publicly available, but for now we note only one possible change from our October 1 post: The FCC is proposing to give the industry an additional 3 months to bring their contracts in jails into compliance with the new rules.
