Despite the new challenges posed by the White House, we had a number of big successes, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Providing the <a href=\"\/reports\/money.html\">first ever big picture view<\/a> of who pays for and who benefits from mass incarceration.  <\/li>\n<li><a href=\"\/reports\/jailsovertime.html\">Exposing the real drivers of local jail expansion,<\/a> and holding state governors and legislatures accountable for the state policy choices that have fueled jail growth.<\/li>\n<li>Exploring why &#8220;Stop-and-Frisk&#8221; policing &#8212; which President Trump thinks is &#8220;incredible&#8221; &#8212; <a href=\"\/reports\/stopandfrisk.html\">is actually incredibly discriminatory.<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Protecting in-person visitation from the <a href=\"\/visitation\/\">video &#8220;visitation&#8221; industry<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Helping state lawmakers <a href=\"\/driving\/#national\">reverse a relic from the War on Drugs<\/a> that prohibits people convicted of drug offenses from driving. (Virginia partially repealed their law, and other efforts are now underway in four more states plus D.C.) <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/static.prisonpolicy.org\/reports\/PPI_Annual_2016-2017.pdf\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/static.prisonpolicy.org\/images\/annual_report_collage_2017-640w.png\" width=\"640\" height=\"174\" class=\"\" alt=\"thumbnail showing some pages from the Prison Policy Initiative 2016-2017 annual report\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>But that&#8217;s not all. In our <a href=\"https:\/\/static.prisonpolicy.org\/reports\/PPI_Annual_2016-2017.pdf\">highly-skimmable annual report<\/a>, we review our work on all of our issues over the last year.
