{"id":7150,"date":"2018-03-12T16:55:36","date_gmt":"2018-03-12T20:55:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.prisonpolicy.org\/blog\/?p=7150"},"modified":"2018-03-12T16:55:36","modified_gmt":"2018-03-12T20:55:36","slug":"s2520","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.prisonpolicy.org\/blog\/2018\/03\/12\/s2520\/","title":{"rendered":"Senate bill targets recalcitrant FCC; revitalizes federal fight to lower the cost of calling home"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In  bipartisan effort, Senators Duckworth (D-IL), Portman (R-OH), Booker (D-NJ) and Schatz (D-HI) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.duckworth.senate.gov\/news\/press-releases\/duckworth-portman-booker-and-schatz-introduce-bipartisan-bill-aimed-at-reducing-recidivism-rates-in-criminal-justice-system\">recently introduced<\/a> a bill (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/115th-congress\/senate-bill\/2520\">S.2520<\/a>) to smooth the road for prison phone and video call regulation.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nThe bill clarifies that the FCC is required to ensure fair cost to customers, rather than only protecting phone company profits.
