Appendix Table 2: Booking reason for people entering U.S. Marshals custody by month (Oct. 2024 - May 2025)

The following table provides the number of people booked into U.S. Marshals custody between October 2024 and May 2025, broken out by most serious criminal charge and by non-criminal, judicial reasons. These booking reasons are reported by the U.S. Marshals. Note that federal laws apply the term “violent offenses” to a surprisingly wide range of criminal acts — including many that don’t involve any physical harm. This table includes all cases, regardless of whether the people are kept in local jails, private prisons or federal facilities.
