The following data were published in monthly reports that the U.S. Marshals send to the U.S. Congress, which the Prison Policy Initiative obtained via public records requests. The following table shows the number of people in federal detention by offense category, broken out by month and year spanning February 2021 – May 2023. Federal officials indicated there were no reports for May 2021 – May 2022, and July 2023. The headings reflect the language used in the report's tables.
